Under the leadership of Padmanabhan Nair, renowned volleyball player Nripjit Singh Bedi and Arjuna Award winner joined the senior team at the 1962 Sian Games in Jakarta. Brilliant victories by the India volleyball team including four consecutive victories against Burma (twice), Cambodia, and Pakistan out of which three are straight victories.
This team was led by legendary players Nripjit Singh Bedi and A. Palaniswamy, both Arjuna Award winners, who had graduated to the senior team, which was then led by TP Padmanabhan Nair, who was also a part of the 1958 team. India has to settle for the Silver Medal which is currently their highest achievement ever at the Asian Games.
